CORPUS CHRISTI - A local family has struggled to live without a kitchen for the past six months.

They say the contractor they paid thousands to do the job hasn't shown up for months.

So this week, they called the Troubleshooters.

When Action 10 News showed up, the problems were obvious.

CORPUS CHRISTI - Three dead dogs were recovered from a backyard in the 1200 block of 11th Street on Friday afternoon.

A neighbor who had noticed two of the dead dogs called the city to report the deaths, and after photographing the scene to obtain a warrant, animal control officers returned to the home to remove the carcases.

At least two of the dogs were heavily decomposed, with not much remaining except patches of skin and bones.

Robstown Family Burned out of Home

ROBSTOWN -- A Robstown family of five is staying with family tonight after their home burned down on Friday.

It happened at a home in the 3900 block of County Road 67. The damage is estimated at more than $30,000 dollars.

State Rates CCISD Academically Acceptable; Miller HS Rated Unacceptable

CORPUS CHRISTI -- Accountability ratings for the Corpus Christi Independent School District were released today and overall the state rated the district academically acceptable.

Here's a look at the numbers:

  • 18 campuses were rated exemplary. That's four more campuses than last year.

CORPUS CHRISTI -- Corpus Christi police are looking for someone who stole a woman's purse, then used her credit card at several local stores.

It happened Saturday, July 24 around 5:00 p.m., according to police.

The woman was loading groceries into her car when another white vehicle came up next to her and stole her purse.

CORPUS CHRISTI- The arts community in Corpus Christi says they have been hit hard by tough economic times and recent city budget cuts.

CORPUS CHRISTI -- Barefoot Wine and the Surfrider Foundation are hosting a beach clean up and a celebration tomorrow for any that wants to help.

The clean up will start at 9:00 a.m. in the morning at Nueces County Beach, access road number 3 and is expected to last untill 11:00 a.m.

Man Indicted for Jasmine Court Murder

CORPUS CHRISTI - A man accused of stabbing a local woman to death back in May has been indicted for her murder. 46-year-old Pedro Bustinza is charged with the murder of 42-year-old Elisa Garcia Rodriguez.

The woman's bloody body was found inside her home on Jasmine Court back on May 11th. Police say Bustinza killed Rodriguez after she rejected his advances of starting a romantic relationship with her.

The victim says she pulled into the Stripes at Port & Tarlton and was walking across the parking lot when the truck pulled in. Postmenopausal women taking Avandia and Actos to keep their diabetes in check, may be at increased risk for fractures.

Researchers found that women over 50 with fractures were more likely to have filled prescriptions for the diabetes drugs.

The study shows higher doses increased the fracture risk.

New research finds that calcium supplements may be bad for your heart.

The study in the British Medical Journal shows that taking calcium supplements is linked with a 30 percent increased risk of heart attack.

Researchers looked at the results of 11 trials involving 12,000 patients.

They say doctors need to re-evaluate recommending supplements to older people for osteoporosis.

CORPUS CHRISTI - A Corpus Christi police officer on the way to a call was involved in an accident this morning.

It happened at the intersection of Leopard and Violet shortly after 6 am.

A SUV was turning onto Violet from Leopard when the driver hit the cop car. The SUV then spun around and hit another vehicle.

The SUV did not have the right away.

There were only minor injuries.

No citation have been issued yet as the accident is under investigation.

CORPUS CHRISTI - A local woman is in jail after hitting her husband with a hammer overnight. It happened at a home on Downing Street.

When police arrived they found 54-year-old Yolands Martinez hitting the garage door lock with the hammer. Martinez's husband told police she had hit him when he tried to get her away from the door.

Martinez was arrested for aggravated assault and criminal mischief. The husband suffered some bruising and swelling to the arm.

FRESNO, CA - Authorities in California have seized $1.7-Billion worth of marijuana plants following a major raid of two national forests. Operation Trident included everything from eradication and staking out supply runners. 55 people have been arrested and face federal drug charges, and authorities say, more arrests are on the way.
