Onshore flow will increase today as an area of low pressure over
the southwest Gulf of Mexico approaches deep south Texas. The
moderate southeast winds will lead to increasing swells that will
impact the beaches of the Middle Texas coast. Swells with long
periods will also increase the risk for rip currents to high today
and should linger into Wednesday.
* TIMING…This morning through Wednesday evening.
* IMPACTS…Strong rip currents are expected along gulf-facing
beaches, especially near piers and jetties. These rip currents
can become life-threatening to anyone entering the surf.
Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don’t swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
