The alleged kidnapping of a little boy in San Antonio was a staged event, possibly to cover up foul play involving the baby, police have confirmed.

The woman seen on surveillance video driving off in a carthat allegedly had an 8-month-old King Jay Davila inside has been arrested and has been identified as the cousin of the baby’s father. Police now confirm that the alleged kidnapping was staged.

“This was not a car theft, this was not a kidnapping, this was a staged event,” San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said in a press conference. “The child was not in that car.”

Police believe that the entire story of the kidnapping was made up to “cover up foul play involving King Jay Davila.”

McManus asked those with information to come forward and said those who withhold information regarding the disappearance of King Jay may be charged at the conclusion of the investigation.

“There is one answer that we don’t have and that is: Where is King Jay?” McManus said. “We are actively looking everywhere and we will continue to look everywhere as this investigation moves forward.”
