Suspect shot by officer in pipe wielding incident released from hospital and arrested

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A man shot by Corpus Christi Police Officer two months ago has been released from the hospital and arrested.

24-year-old Justin Garcia was released from the hospital on Friday then booked into the Nueces County Jail.

He's charged with Aggravated Assault on a peace officer. He was released on bond yesterday.

On September 10, 2019, Officer William Hobbs was investigating a disturbance on Weber and Gollihar.

That's when he came in contact with Garcia. According to witnesses, Garcia was allegedly swinging a pipe in the street.

Hobbs says he tried to subdue Garcia but Garcia swung the pipe at him. Hobbs says he then fired his weapon at Garcia.

A Witness caught the incident on cell phone video and shared it with media.

Officer Hobbs was placed on administrative leave. He's now back on duty, but in administrative leave. He will remain there until the investigation is complete.
