CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Reports of roadside robberies around in the Blunzter area has community members there on high alert.
Recently, a volunteer fire department posted to its Facebook page that some of the firefighters have fallen victim to robbers faking car trouble. The post has been shared more than 2,000 times and has sparked concerns in a rural Nueces County community.
The Sheriff's Department is investigating some of those claims but residents in the area are also taking steps to protect themselves.
One resident is using an App called Nextdoor to create a Crimewatch network among her neighbors.
"Right now we have anywhere from 84 to 100 something people that belong to our App. It is in this whole surrounding area, wherever I want it. Everybody stays informed; it lets people know when there is a car here that shouldn't be here. If somebody gets something stolen or if their livestock is out, it is just a handy App all the way around," said Linnie Norvel.
The Nextdoor App is designed to help reduce crime by connecting a network of residents, security cameras, and police.
