The Jim Wells Co. Sheriff's Office is calling the shooting that took place on San Felipe street in Alice "the first homicide of 2020" in their area.

The shooting happened earlier this week.

The victim, 49-year-old Ernesto Salinas, died from a gunshot to the face.

Authorities were searching for 46-year old Victor Trevino Jr., who eventually turned himself in.

The sheriff said even though Trevino is now behind bars, they are still searching for the murder weapon.

"We got information where the gun might be located, so the investigators are working diligently on that," said Sheriff Danny Bueno.

Trevino is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and murder.

His bond is set for $400,000.
