The City of Corpus Christi has released clarification about a report claiming that Corpus Christi had the highest utility averages in the nation.
According to City Manager Peter Zanoni, Doxo , the for-profit company that published the initial survey, was misrepresenting the facts.
“The survey is a tactic to promote the company and get more people to sign up for their online bill paying service,” said Peter Zanoni, City Manager. “The company included electricity in their calculations, which is deregulated in Texas, and not a service the City of Corpus Christi provides. Cities are routinely named in surveys across the country for a variety of topics. It is important our residents and customers know the information provided in this particular survey is incomplete and inaccurate.”
Officials say the average that Corpus Christi residents actually pay is $130, compared to the $630 that the original report claims. The online payment company's survey used data that only covers 3% of utility customers in Corpus Christi.
