INGLESIDE, TEXAS — Ingleside police have arrested a man accused of injuring a toddler.

Police say 23-year-old Jonathan Aaron Rodriguez was arrested and charged with Injury to a Child.

In a post on the department's Facebook page, Ingleside police posted a picture adding the photo clearly shows a handprint caused by a slap inflicted on a 19-month-old child.

The child's mother, also a resident of Ingleside, and the girlfriend of the suspect, believed the suspect when he told her that he did not know how the mark got there.

The mother of the child did not seek medical attention for the child, as she believed the child scratched himself, according to police.

Police said the suspect did not admit to slapping the child, however, he did admit placing his hand on the child's face because the toddler wouldn't stop crying.

Rodriguez admitted to police that he may have grabbed him a little too hard because of his firm grip.

The 19-month old child received medical attention and is now safe and secure with other family members out of the area.

Child Protective Services is investigating, and the Ingleside PD is still investigating additional charges.

Rodriguez is facing a 3rd degree felony punishable by imprisonment for 2 to 10 years, and a fine not to exceed $10,000, if found guilty.
