The 44th annual Beach to Bay Marathon will be held Saturday. The thousands of participating runners are going to need plenty of leg room.

The Beach to Bay Relay Marathon has been around for more than 40 years. Some will run it as part of a team, others brave the full 26.2 miles on their own. The race attracts thousands of runners each year. But why do they run? For those who will cross the finish line tomorrow, they will have thousands of reasons for running.

Last yearnearly 1,700 teams competed in the race.

With that many runners, traffic patterns along the route will be affected.Beginning at 4 a.m., there will be lane closures along parts of Park Road 22, Waldron Road, northbound NAS Drive, northbound Ocean Drive and north and southbound Shoreline Boulevard. Some side streets along the route will also be closed. Find road closures here.If you’re traveling in that area, expect delays.
