In a press re.lease, the Port of Corpus Christi Authority announced the sign-up deadline is tomorrow for residents of Hillcrest and Washington-Coles neighborhood residents who wish to participate in the Port of Corpus Christi Authority’s Voluntary Acquisition and Relocation Program.

Residents have until tomorrow, Tuesday, May 7 to submit a written request to participate in the program. For more information about the program, please visit: www.ccharborbridgerelocation.com

Program Background:
On Dec. 17, 2015, TxDOT and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) entered into a voluntary resolution agreement regarding the Harbor Bridge relocation project. The two-party agreement resolved a Title VI civil rights complaint filed by residents of the Hillcrest neighborhood related to the planned alignment of the new bridge by providing additional mitigation for neighborhoods near the new bridge.

As a result of the two-party agreement, TxDOT entered into a separate agreement with the city of Corpus Christi, the Port of Corpus Christi Authority and the Corpus Christi Housing Authority to implement the agreement. The centerpiece of the agreement is a voluntary relocation program under which residents, who wish to move out of the neighborhood, can choose to participate in the program. The program also assists with relocation costs.

The Port of Corpus Christi released the following numbers in correlation with the program to date:
♦ 362 residents have expressed interest in participating in the program;
♦The Port of Corpus Christi has purchased 228 homes and assisted the owners and tenants of these homes with relocation; and
♦17 former neighborhood residents have become first-time homebuyers.
