Students who want to compete for jobs in local refineries and the petrochemical industry got a sizable boost today.
Today, Voestalpine Texas donated $50,000 to Gregory-Portland High School.
The money will be used to buy state-of-the-art training equipment for process technology classes on campus.
The classes are offered in partnership with Del Mar College.
Voestalpine employs about 300 people at its iron processing plant in Portland and is looking to hire more in the future.
Additionally, Exxon Mobil and Saudi Basic Industries are planning to build a manufacturing plant in Gregory that is still going through the permitting process.
