If you live along the Gulf Coast, you need to make sure you have a hurricane plan of action.

This weekend, you’ll get some help putting it together.

Tomorrow through Monday, you can purchase certain items tax-free during the state’s sales tax holiday for emergency preparation supplies.

This sales tax holiday is meant to encourage people to prepare for a potential disaster.

All kinds of equipment and supplies are eligible, including portable generators and hurricane shutters.

You can even purchase the basics like first aid kits and smoke detectors.

“I believe more people are more aware of it and hopefully, this will get out to everybody in South Texas,” said Angel Solis, an assistant store manager at Home Depot. “They can come over to Calallen or other Home Depots and get their supplies that they need now.”

The State Comptroller’s Office estimates Texas shoppers will save more than $1.6 million during this upcoming sales-tax holiday.
