Watercraft from across the state and beyond are on display this weekend at the 5th Annual Wooden Boat Festival in Port Aransas.

This yearly effort is put together by the Port Aransas Museum and Farley Boat Works – both under the umbrella of the Port Aransas Preservation and Historical Association.

The boats are on display at Roberts Point Park (301 JC Barr Blvd.) and the Farley Boat Works (716 W. Ave. C) by both kit companies and individual builders and designers. It is an opportunity for those who attend to see beautifully handcrafted and commercially-built boats and to speak with the people who created them.

Anyone who would like to display their wooden boat is invited to do so, at no cost. It does not have to be pretty or even finished – just made of wood!

The fun began on Friday when four families began building boats. The construction will continue throughout the event, and the boats will launch Sunday afternoon at  3 p.m. at the Harbor Boat Ramp.

Tickets are $10 per person.

On Saturday, several short classes and demonstrations are taking place between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. There will also be activities for children, a Nautical Flea Market and more.
