A new vessel has been added to the Port Aransas ferry fleet.
Today, the Texas Department of Transportation unveiled the Joseph F. Weber, bringing the number of ferries in the fleet to eight.
As is tradition, the 28 vehicle boat, was named after a former TxDOT Director.
Today’s honoree was on hand for the ceremony and says it was a truly humbling experience.
“This is a very important part of the Texas transportation system,” said former TxDOT Director Joseph F. Weber. “Being an old marine it’s hard keeping me away from the sea and this type of water craft that doed such a great service for our community. It’s truly an honor to be here.”
The new ferry is scheduled to go into service before Spring Break
