Collier Pool is once again closed. This time, the Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation says it’s due to a malfunction of the recirculation pump breaker. The mechanism is what helps keep the waters warm during the colder weather.
The cold waters have been a problem for swimmers since December. Many have stopped using the pool, while others swim to stay warm. Therese Casey uses the pool twice a day and says it’s been frustrating.
“There’s an icy cold, then there’s a warm cold,” said pool swimmer, Therese Casey. “I think after a while you just kind of get used to it or (get) numb.”
Another frustrating aspect to the problem is the fact that the pool just reopened a year and half ago after getting a $2.5 million makeover.
“There’s been so many things that have gone wrong on this brand new pool,” said Casey. “And we want to know why is it breaking so often?”
The City has closed the pool temporarily until further notice. A shuttle service will be offered Monday through Friday from Collier Pool to the Natatorium.
