Making strides is an annual event taking place in many communities throughout the United States every October.

Kayla Hansen, the Community Development Manager for the American Cancer Society said, “October is a huge month for ACS, as you know it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we have our Making Strides against Breast Cancer Walk. This year is our 10th anniversary.”

The American Cancer Socitey relies on your help to make a donation.

“We have a lot of teams that are out and about fund raising for us,” said Hansen.

But there are also scammers posing as associates of the American Cancer Society who want your money.

Its called Pinkwashing, and just because someone may come up to you wearing a pink bracelet or a pink lapel pin does not mean they are with the American Cancer Society and scams are running rampid the month of October.

Kelly Trevino from the Better Business Bureau said “scammers are going to be looking for prime motivation for you to give them the money and this is definitely one of those motivates to help people in need.”

So how do you know if you are in fact supporting the fight to end breast cancer?

“Ask questions. Ask them for their web site. If they are registered online with us they have a donation page where you can go online and make your donation at your convenience,” said Hansen
