11 vehicles were broken into at the Coastal Haven Apartments, near Everhart and Saratoga Wednesday night.

Sharlet Hatmaker, who has lived in the complex for two years said, “It’s very sad and very scary.”

Hatmaker adds she was awoken sometime in the middle of the night but doesn’t know the exact time, “I don’t know, I didn’t look at the clock. I just heard it and looked out my window, because my bedroom window you can look out and see the whole parking lot.”

Edward Benetiez was visiting a friend, he thought about leaving money in the glove box. He got lucky, “I started to leave cash in there but I didn’t thank God.”

Hatmaker says apartment living is risky. There are always people coming and going.

“Every night you always have people in and out in and out. Visitors and you never know if they belong here or not. and its really scary,” said Hatmaker,

CCPD’s Travis Pace has this advice. “Take anything of value out of your car, especially at apartment complexes. They have been a target over the years, and if you can, minimize your ability to be a victim.”

Pace also says the police are searching for two men and there is surveillance video.

“I just hope they catch the person who did it,” said Benetiez.
