It’s National Car Seat Awareness week.
In honor of that week, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Texas Department of Transportation and Driscoll Children’s Hospital will hold a free child car seat check tomorrow.
It will be held at the Robstown Fire Department at 516 East Avenue B from 9am until 1pm.
DPS Sgt. Nathan Brandley says 9 out of 10 people who come through their clinic don’t have their car seats installed properly. He says being properly restrained can save your life.
“Anytime, an adult or a child wears a safety belt or in a car seat, you’re giving yourself already a 50 percent higher chance of surviving a major crash, especially in a rollover, from not being ejected,” Sgt. Brandley said.
By the way, state law requires children under the age of eight or under 4’9″ to be in a child safety seat. If they’re not, the driver will be ticketed.
