An overloaded barge spilled more than a thousand gallons of oil into Port of Corpus Christi waters Thursday night.

The Coast Guard responded to the oil spill Thursday night at Flint Hills East Dock in Corpus Christi, according to a press release. Officials say boom has been placed around the overloaded barge, which spilled about 1,176 gallons of oil into the water.

A 100 by 450 yard sheen could be seen in the Port waters due to the spill, according to the release.

Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi Incident Management Division, along with Corpus Christi Oil Spill Association, Flint Hills and barge crews, continue clean up efforts this morning.
