UPDATE: No COVID-19 cases in Jim Wells County

UPDATE (3:44 p.m. March 31): According to a release issued Monday by Jim Wells Co. Judge Juan Rodriguez Jr., the COVID-19 patient originally reported to be in Jim Wells Co. now lives in Nueces Co., and will count toward the total number of Nueces Co. cases. Jim Wells Co. currently has no confirmed cases of COVID-19.

ORIGINAL: Jim Wells County has confirmed it's first COVID-19 case.

The infected person is said to be a female between the ages of 20 and 25. The Alice Echo reports her to be from Orange Grove.

"County officials, the JWC Sheriff's Department, area City Officials, and remaining County authorities are all working together to be sure this case stays isolated and remains quarantined while adhering to all federal privacy laws protecting this individual," County Judge Juan Rodriguez Jr. said in a press release.

No word on whether the case was travel related or something else.

The release reminds people to follow the CDC and Texas DSHS recommended precautions during the pandemic.
