It's back to the classroom -- well, the laptops. At least for a couple of weeks.
Many parents may be stressed about how their children will learn during this time, especially if that child has a disability.
Partners Resource Network's Region 2 Coordinator Natalie Parker said the group lets parents help their students with special needs thrive by providing a variety of resources to help, such as webinars and advice.
“We really strive in empowerment through education for parents of children with disabilities, regarding helping parents learn more about their child's disability and understand it," she said. "Understanding the laws of I.D.E.A., which is the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.”
The organization also helps parents understand their child's learning plans. She said communication with educators is key to helping students with special needs succeed.
Parker said her own experiences help her connect with other parents.
“I, myself, have a child with special needs," she said. "I share the struggle with online learning, as do other parents.”
Parker also said the organization also offers help for struggling parents: One-on-one meetings are available via phone call or Zoom.
“We share our stories, and I get more familiar with their child with special needs, and more particular to their disability,” she said.
