The Port Aransas Police have released the name of the man who was found dead after being pulled out of the ship channel this morning.  He is identified as 64-year-old Martin Andrew Steitle.

According to a press release from the Port Aransas Police Department, the truck that drove into the waters on Tuesday night was confirmed to be the same vehicle that was pulled from the waters this afternoon.  The dive team was able to raise the vehicle from the bottom and float it to an area approximately 200 yards north of the scene where it was recovered from the ship channel.  Police found Steitle’s body inside.

The cause and manner of death will be determined after their post mortem examination. It may take several weeks to complete the toxicology screen.

Police are still investigating.  So far there’s no word on why Steitle fled from the police then drove into the ferry.
