A problem with the wastewater system has forced a temporary shutdown at Kane Beef Processors that has sent hundreds of workers home for the day.
The city notified the company Thursday afternoon that the water used in processing the cattle was no longer meeting standards. The city stopped accepting the plant’s wastewater.
Some of the water apparently spilled on the property but was contained.
A Kane spokesperson said that the company is working on the problem. They also said that after a meeting with the city this morning, they received permission to resume operating.
Kane workers were sent home earlier today and the company hopes to resume operations by Monday.
