The Coastal Bend community has come together to provide presents for kids who recently lost both parents in a murder-suicide.

In a Facebook post last week, Constable Robert Vasquez of Jim Wells County, requested presents for Melissa Arredondo’s two young children.

He says by the end of the week, people from all over, dropped off dozens of donations.

“About 100, if not more,” says Constable Robert Vasquez.

Constable Vasquez, deputies, and friends and family members of Arredondo delivered the presents the morning of Christmas Eve, surprising the children.

“I saw their eyes just lit up, and you could tell that wow, it was a lot,” says Arredondo’s brother-in-law Martin Garcia.

The family overwhelmed, say, even if temporarily, the presents are bringing joy to the family.

“It won’t take it away, but at least they’ll be able to have a little bit of fun, you know, for Christmas Eve, and Christmas,” says Garcia.
