Actress Penny Marshall has died at the age of 75, TMZ.com reports.
Marshall dies Monday night at her Hollywood Hills home. The website reports that Marshall’s cause of death was complications from diabetes.
Marshall became a superstar for her work in the sitcom “Laverne & Shirley,” which became a monster hit in 1976 after spinning off from “Happy Days.” She was well known for her character’s moniker — the “L” for Laverne on her sweater which became one of the most iconic symbols in television history.
She later became an accomplished directors of movies like “Big,” “A League of Their Own,” and “Awakenings” starring Robin Williams.
Marshall had been treated for brain and lung cancer in 2009. She had been married to actor Rob Reiner from 1971-1981 and had also dated singer Art Garfunkel.
In recent years, she became well known for her fandom of the Los Angeles Clippers, becoming a staple at courtside seats for the team over the years.
