CORPUS CHRISTI – Collier Pool shut down for a day for a little cleaning.  Staff showed up to find human feces in the pool. They do not know how it got there or who left it.  The staff’s priority was to ensure a healthy and safe experience for swimmers.

They closed the pool to decontaminate.  The pool’s filtering system cleared out the waste.

Lifeguards check and maintain PH and chlorine levels hourly to make sure it’s safe for swimmers.  The Parks and Recreation Director said shutting the pool in this situation is typical.

"Normally when we run across anything that’s unusual or left in the pool or taints the chemical levels, we generally close the pool immediately," explained Jay Ellington, Parks and Rec Director.

The Health Department says there are several illnesses that can be caused by swallowing pool water contaminated with E. coli or norovirus.

The City says Collier Pool has been fully decontaminated and is open once again.
