To say that the Alice Animal Shelter is  understaffed would be an under statement.

Right now, they don’t have any employees and the shelter is at capacity.

Manual Lareles found out the hard way when he brought two strays that have been on his property for a week.

‘"Finally caught them today and I put them in a cage and brought them here. Now they don’t want to accept them, so I don’t know what to do with them why wont they accept them? They say they are full," said Laureles

So Laureles, got back in his car and drove off with the dogs in tow,

I spoke with Alice Chief of Police Rex Ramon, who assures me that, while the shelter is short staffed, none of the dogs will be put down, and they will be well taken care of.

But by who? Chief Ramon was at the shelter cleaning, washing and feeding the dogs.

And right now the shelter needs your help.

They have an immediate need for two animal control employees and volunteers.

So if you have some spare time, the shelter needs you.

And if you want a dog, the shelter will be open from 1-3 Monday- Friday and the adoption fee is only 25 dollars.

Do it now, so the next dogs that come to the shelter will have a home.

Right now, if you need to drop off an animal, Mathis and Robstown are the closest shelters available.
