In a press release from Kingsville Police Department, the Street Level Operations Team with SWAT busted a couple Friday for manufacturing and selling synthetic marijuana after months of investigation.

Once a search warrant was issued, the units made the drug bust in the 800 Block of West Alice Street.

Police found a digital scale, packaging materials and money believed to be proceeds of narcotics trafficking.

SWAT forced their way into the home and  found Joel Elizondo, 28, in the bathroom.  They seized 16 bags of marijuana that Elizondo was attempting to flush down the toilet.  One of the bags became stuck preventing the rest of the drugs from being flushed.

A total of 7.13 ounces of pot was recovered.

Elizondo and a woman who lives with him, Jessica Salazar, were arrested and charged with manufacturing /delivery of a controlled substance which is a first degree felony.  Elizondo is  also charged with tampering with physical evidence with intent to impair which is a third degree felony.

The couple may be facing enhanced charges because they were manufacturing and dealing within 1,000 feet of Texas A&M-Kingsville, a Drug Free Zone.

Police say the couple had been under investigation for several months and other arrests are likely.
