Driftwood Coffee Co. was started just over 10 years ago, starting from the ground up.

"We started from small farmers and roasting in a popcorn popper in our garage," owner Randi Carroll said.

Carroll moved their business to a storefront located on South Alameda where they provide locally roasted coffee beans to local coffee shops and coffee lovers in the Coastal Bend.

"Coffee Waves on Alameda has been our longest standing customer," Carroll said.

Cora Johnson, the owner of Coffee Waves, says she knew right away she wanted to work with Driftwood Coffee Co.

"She worked with me on different coffee profiles that I was looking for," Johnson said. "She was always open to trying new things."

During the COVID-19 outbreak, local businesses have struggled and many of the shops that Carroll was providing beans for either shut down or limited their business. That did not stop Carroll from making a tremendous impact on the community.

She teamed up with Coffee Waves as they began fueling the front line.

"People can go to our website and sponsor a container of cold brew," she said. "Once we get enough funds we work together with Coffee Waves to brew the coffee and drop it at the next place."

They have been delivering fresh coffee to Walmart locations, nursing homes and soon will expand their operation to fueling workers at Driscoll Children's and Spohn Shoreline hospitals.

Their attention has been on helping the community during this uncertain time, but they are still making sure their clients get the product they need to stay afloat.

"I didn't have enough coffee," Johnson said. "She said 'I can make you an emergency batch.'"

That is what it's all about during this time, local supporting local.

Driftwood Coffee Co. is going above and beyond the call of duty to help those who need a little boost in a time where that is hard to come by.
