Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation made a generous donation to the Portland Fire Department to buy some necessary new gear.
The company presented the $18,736 check to Portland Fire Department representatives earlier today. The money will be used to for 8 new sets of bunker gear, which they were desperately in need of.
"This is a big deal for us because after a fire, the bunker gear is contaminated with potential cancer causing agents and needs to be cleaned," their post said. "In the past, firefighters would have to continue to wear the gear for the remainder of the shift before being able to clean it. Now, after a fire, the guys can get into a clean set of gear while theirs is being decontaminated."
The Portland Fire Department is gracious for the new equipment.
