CORPUS CHRISTI — The Corpus Christi Hooks' manager, Omar Lopez, is heading to the big leagues. Lopez will serve as the new first-base coach for the Houston Astros; the team made the announcement earlier Monday evening.
Lopez has served as the Hooks' manager for the last two seasons, winning Texas League Manager of the Year honors in 2018.
The 43-year-old has served in the Astros' organization for the last 22 years, and has been managing in their minor league system for 12.
Lopez will be replacing Don Kelly who left the team after just one season.
