The Calallen Lady Cats notched a 5-1 victory Friday morning over The Colony to charge into the state championship game.

The Lady Cats snapped The Colony’s 27-game winning streak en route to the biggest victory in the school’s softball history.

Lizette Del Angel limited the Cougars to one hit and struck out 10 to key the victory. Calallen also took advantage of uncharacteristic sloppiness by The Colony, who committed four errors in the loss.

To do it, they escaped from a situation with two runners on and no out in the sixth inning.

And Kat Flores iced the victory with a clutch two-run triple in the seventh inning that gave them some breathing room as the game finished up.

Angleton and Forney will meet later today to decide on Calallen’s opponent in the finals. The championship game will be at 3 p.m. Saturday.
