This week's Friday Night Marquee matchup is a make-up game between Rockport-Fulton and Miller. The game was postponed two weeks ago due to a COVID-19 issue with the Pirates.

In Rockport, the Pirates are back on the practice field after not practicing or playing for the last 14 days.

In fact, they have not played a game since beating Aransas Pass almost three weeks ago, so they are happy for some normalcy again.

Rockport-Fulton Head coach said Jay Seibert put the word out that his team would be practicing on Saturday morning, and he wasn’t disappointed with the turnout.

"We are just working a lot harder putting a lot more effort in and hitting the weight room harder, and, honestly, we are more hyped up for this game,” said Pirates’ center Christian Jolley.

And for good reason. The Pirates will be playing their home opener against the No. 5-ranked team in the state in the Miller Bucs, who have so far lived up to their stellar ranking, piling up 125 points in their first two games.

And with so many changes to the schedule due to COVID-19, Miller Head Football Coach Justen Evans said he is especially happy to get this game in.

"Our kids need to play just like anybody else’s kids,” he said. “We need to get prepared for district because we know what's coming down the pipe once district starts.”

Miller linebacker Albert Levingston is grateful for the rescheduled game. He said the team needs the practice to jell.

“We just need to trust each other and (know) that are going to do everything we need to do so we can continue to get better,” he said.
