The city has designated a stretch of the downtown bay front for a fitness initiative this weekend.

"The expanded street lane will help to reduce the overcrowding of the sidewalks and enable social distancing of six to ten feet while exercising," says a press release from the city of Corpus Christi.

This is part of City Manager Peter Zanoni's, "Safe Fun-Fit at the Bayfront” initiative. Zanoni will be there to kick things off at The Water’s Edge Park, 402 Shoreline Blvd.

"We noticed a lot of people utilizing the bay area, but they were jammed up and didn’t have the ability to be six feet apart," Zanoni said. "We came up with fitness lane and closed Ocean Drive from Cole Park to Lawrence Street."

The 1.25-mile stretch of beautiful bay front will be available for biking, walking, jogging, running, or whatever fitness movement you choose.

"It's healthy and free," Zanoni said. "We want to stay safe and healthy from COVID, but also stay safe and healthy, generally. This will help us do it. Come on out, stay fit and stay healthy."

You can check it out the "Fitness Lane" starting this Saturday, May 23, from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m..
