Jim Wells County Judge Juan Rodriguez has declared that the Texas Department of State Health Services has determined that his county meets the threshold of having five or fewer COVID-19 cases.

This edict will allow that businesses in the county may move from 25 percent to 50 percent capacity consistent with Governor Abbott and the Department of State Health Services minimum health protocols for the following businesses:

  • Dine-in restaurants
  • Retail in-stores
  • Movie theaters
  • Museums and libraries

County officials have stated that practicing good hygiene remains paramount. And the current occupancy rate could revert back to the 25 percent occupancy limits if any of the following occurs:

  • Five consecutive testing/tracking intervals with positivity rates greater than 12% in that interval.
  • The county has more than three positive cases per 1,000 residents.
  • Less than 15% of the surge capacity in hospital for the catchment area is available.
