Local non-profits that are struggling financially will soon be able to apply for some help.

Thursday, the city of Corpus Christi and the United Way of the Coastal Bend announced the creation of a half-million-dollar non-profit recovery fund.

Non-profits that qualify could be awarded grants of up to $25,000 for administrative costs. That includes things like rent and utilities.

The grants will allow struggling non-profits' financial breathing room so they can continue offering their services to the community.

"They provide housing, they provide shelters, they provide food, they provide different kinds of training," said Libby Averyt, the President & CEO of United Way of the Coastal Bend. "These are necessary services that certainly help to our overall healthy economy and help our community in terms of quality of life."
