It was obviously a busy day on the island today

That’s the focus of our We’re Open report where you will find a great locally owned coffee shop.

It's easy to find, Just look for the the shipping containers.

That's where you will find Island Joes Coffee and Gallery at 14829 S. Padre Island Drive.

Owned by Bryan and Brenda Tumlinson. They were extra busy on this Memorial Day serving up all sorts of coffees, teas and smoothies.

They have been around for six years, but only about a year and a half in their current location made from the 10 shipping containers.

Bryan Tumlinson wanted something different.

And he certainly got it.

“I always wanted to build something out of shipping containers," Bryan Tumlinson said. "I really thought it was unique and it kind of looked like art to me,

"I saw it in a number of different places throughout the world but not so much in Texas and now it’s becoming more popular."

The owners are big on giving back. They help feed families in the Dominican Republic.
