A coronavirus curfew has been ordered for San Antonio and all of Bexar County.

The curfew prohibits residents from gathering outside their homes after 10 p.m., with exceptions made for traveling to essential businesses including grocery stores.

The 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew starts tonight and ends Monday.

City leaders hope this will stop people from gathering who don't live in the same household.

"If we don't do that through regulation or good behavior, if we don't do that we are in for a world of hurt as a community,” San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg said. “These are uncertain times, and people have been saying that, but this I am certain this sun also rises and so shall San Antonio."

Leaders issued the curfew hours after Texas reported a second consecutive day of record-breaking coronavirus cases.

More than 1.13 million Texans have now contracted COVID-19, including more than 75,000 residents in Bexar County.
