An early-morning fire caused severe damage on South Padre Island on Saturday, and the worst of it was captured by cell phone video.

The Laguna Vista Volunteer Fire Department’s photo shows the scope of the fire.

The Rio Grande Valley Firefighters and Fire Marshal's Association also posted video from the event.

South Padre Island is located about 2 1/2 hours south of Corpus Christi, near the U.S. border with Mexico.

It erupted at the Gulf Point Condominiums around 6:30 a.m.

A National Weather Service radar indicates a lightning strike was the cause.

No injuries were reported.
