One Texas lawmaker is looking to honor the Queen of Tejano by making the singer’s birthday a state holiday.

Texas Rep. Ana-Maria Ramos recently filed House Bill 2492, aiming to make April 16 Selena Quintanilla Perez Day in Texas.

The bill states the holiday would be observed “in memory of the contributions to Tejano music of Selena Quintanilla Perez, an award-winning singer and recording artist,” and may be observed by appropriate ceremonies and activities.

The Selena Day bill still has plenty of legislative steps to go through before it becomes law, and if approved, would go into effect on Sept. 1
