UPDATE: The suspect has been identified as 41-year-old Nicholas Alanis.

He has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with a late-night stabbing near the Del Mar College East Campus that led to a brief standoff with the Corpus Christi Police Department late Friday night.

Police say the man who was stabbing is recovering from non life-threatening injuries.

Officers were called out to a home on Naples Street just after 9:00 p.m. Friday for a disturbance.

When they arrived, they discovered one man had stabbed another man inside the home.

A brief standoff ensued as the suspect refused to exit the home.

Police say there were at least five other family members inside at the time.

"There were some tense moments, moments that we had to use good de-escalation, a lot of patience and a lot of time," Corpus Christi Police Lt. Paul Janko said. "And that's why this call took a little more time and that's fine. It'll take what it'll take.

"We had officers create a dialogue with the suspect. It was a conversation with the suspect. It took a little while. The suspect finally came out, no force was used. And now he's in custody."

The standoff came to an end around 11:00 pm Friday night.
