Cookies and cremation? A ghoulish report in Davis, Calif., indicates a high school student made cookies mixed with human remains and then gave them to unknowing classmates for
Several students at the DaVinci Charter Academy in Davis, Calif., may have eaten cookies that incorporated the ashes of one of the student’s grandparents into the batter, according to Davis police.
There have been marijuana-laced cookies brought to schools over the years, but nothing like treats that have the remains of cremated people mixed into the dough.
Police said the cookies were sugar cookies that were brought to campus and fed to at least nine students.
Davis police Lt. Paul Doroshov says he’s never come across a case like this.
“No, this is a weird one,” he told Sacramento TV station KOVR . “I have not heard of anyone getting sick or anybody being harmed as far as physically, physiologically by this.”
The Davis Joint Union School District issued a statement saying it couldn’t comment on confidential student matters, but that its investigation continues:
“This case has been particularly challenging and we have responded appropriately and in the most respectful and dignified way possible,” the district said.
Evidence has come only from student testimony. The cookies have not been tested, KOVR reports.
