The score probably won't surprise you if traveling on Glendale Drive is a regular occurrence.

Glendale Drive has a rating of 0 out of 100, according to the Corpus Christi Director of Public Works Richard Martinez.

The average roadway condition for Corpus Christi is rated at 57, Martinez said.

"The American Society of Civil Engineers have put that out saying a 70 is what a city our size, shouldn't be below that," said Martinez.

Those low grades have prompted Martinez to begin an in-house paving program, where the city bought its own equipment and retrained staff to do more maintenance projects like Glendale Drive.

But these projects will be done through an overlay approach, and not just patched like before.

"Now with our milling machines and pavers, we can go level the road back off again, smooth it back off again, and put a new smooth asphalt surface back on top," Martinez said.

Many residents living near Glendale Drive were excited that the city is finally working on their roads.

Notices were provided on Friday, letting them know that work will begin Monday and continue through at least Nov. 25.
