A woman is recovering in the hospital after being shot Tuesday night.
Corpus Christi Police Department Lt. Carl Williams said officers arrived in the 3500 block of Naples Street at around 9:35 p.m. after a family member called in the incident.
The woman, who Williams described as a "grandmother," was shot once. She was taken to a local hospital, and is said to have been "alert and conscious," when police arrived. Her injuries are described as non life-threatening.
She was one of five people in the house. The other four people in the house were detained by police, and the shooter is believed to be one of the people detained. They were eventually released.
Williams said he was unable to answer questions about whether the shooting was accidental.
"Can't really release that yet," he said late Tuesday, "but, kinda hoping that's the way it goes, yeah."
But he did stress the importance of gun education.
"Gun safety is very important," he said. "Anytime you're handling a firearm, you might wanna practice gun safety. Let's put it that way."
No arrests were made Tuesday night, and no charges currently are pending, Williams said.
