CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Veterans who served on the USS Lexington when it was in commission were on board this afternoon for their annual reunion.
Dozens of sailors got together for a tour of Corpus Christi and lunch at the Lady Lex.
By coincidence, the 8-millionth visitor to the museum was greeted at the entrance with balloons and a gift bag. As it turns out, that visitor is a veteran who served on the vessel from 1945 to 1946.
"Butterflies in the stomach , its just unreal, my job on the lex was unhooking the airplanes back then we were using nothing but prop," said USS Lexington veteran, Allie Schraber.
One of the first 120 women to serve on the USS Lexington also made an appearance. The reunion is held annually in different parts of the country.
