CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The man suspected of causing a 7-car pile-up outside of Planet Fitness has been arrested.

Derek St. Amant faces two counts of intoxicated assault with a vehicle, and one count of intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle. Each of the intoxicated assault charges has a $50,000 bond. The intoxicated manslaughter charge has a $500,000 bond, making the total bond for all charges $600,000. Authorities say the 47 year old could face additional charges.

There were at least six victims at the scene on the day of the crash. Three of them had severe injuries, and one of those victims later died.

On Thursday, Corpus Christi Police Department Lt. Michael Pena told KRIS 6 News that a 55-year-old man has died from his injuries sustained in a multiple-vehicle crash outside Planet Fitness on Monday afternoon.

Corpus Christi police are investigating the driver who was involved in the incident. He is suspected to have been on drugs and speeding at the time of the crash. CCPD confirmed earlier in the week that St. Amant is being treated for injuries and was facing three counts of intoxication assault, but one of those has upgraded to intoxication manslaughter after the death of the 55-year-old man.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a multiple-vehicle crash near Airline Road and South Padre Island Drive on Monday, Nov. 8 just after 2:30 p.m.

According to Senior Officer Travis Pace, there was a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle clipped two other cars and landed in the parking lot where it flipped and struck several other vehicles.

It all happened outside the Planet Fitness at Sunrise Mall. A mother and her young son had minor injuries, and police say a man in a brown pick-up truck and two men in a white truck were seriously hurt, while at least two of the victims are fighting to stay alive.

The suspect has not been identified by police. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
