CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A man who was shot by a police officer and a sheriff's deputy is now in the San Patricio Jail.

Rockport resident Myles Tackett was discharged from the hospital after being shot during the commission of a crime.

"They confronted the guy at the back end of the alley," said San Patricio County Sheriff Oscar Rivera. "He had a weapon with him, they asked him to get on the ground, and drop the weapon. He didn't, so both officers fired."

Rivera said early in the morning on Dec. 4, officers were responding to a call for someone trying to break into a car in the small community of Ingleside-on-the-Bay.

A San Patricio County Sheriff's deputy and an Ingleside Police Department officer arrived, and Tackett fled towards Woodhaven Drive, between Parkview Place and FM 1069.

According to neighbors, Tackett knocked on the front door of a house looking for a place to hide. When he couldn't get in, he ran along the fence into the backyard, which opens into the alley. That's where officers found him.

The officers involved are now on administrative leave, which is standard procedure in cases like this. The Texas Rangers are handling the investigation into the shooting.

Tackett faces two counts of aggravated assault of a peace officer. He was already charged with burglary of a vehicle.
