CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A port commissioner representing the interests of the City of Corpus Christi resigned.

During a press conference on Thursday afternoon, Mayor Joe McComb said that council-appointed Port Commissioner Wayne Squires has resigned following a recent investigation into claims that he did not earn a college degree from Penn State University.

KRIS 6 News checked with the university and learned that he did not earn a bachelors degree from the university though his biography on the Port of Corpus Christi website stated that he earned a bachelors of science degree in petroleum and natural gas engineering.

Squires served as vice-chairman on the Port of Corpus Christi Authority.
