A local eatery has opened its doors after a long hiatus.

Pep’s closed its doors two weeks ago after the business was notified that there was a person who tested positive for COVID-19 in its establishment.

Upon hearing the news, the owner had all employees who were in contact with the person get tested.

“We made sure all employees were tested. Everyone who is working now has tested negative,” said Lauren Blanco, a Pep’s employee.

To take extra precautionary measures the restaurant closed down for two weeks to disinfect and sanitize the business.

The restaurant is only open for curbside and delivery orders now, but the owner says he does plan on opening at 25 percent capacity sometime next week.

“We’re enforcing social distancing, sanitizing every thirty minutes, making sure everyone wears our masks, and we are checking temperatures for everyone that comes in,” said Blanco.

In a social media post, owner Jose Hernandez said the restaurant will continuously work in direct guidance of the health department, state officials, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Hernandez said taking the extra precautions are to help protect the community.

Pep’s is located in Portland off US 181.

The establishment has been around for 12 years.
