PORT ARANSAS, Texas — According to a post from Nueces County ESD#2, Port Aransas Police located the missing swimmer around 2:50 a.m. Friday.

Port Aransas Police confirm that the man was found dead about ten feet from the shore near beach markers 9 and 10.

The swimmer has been identified by authorities as Nicholas Austin Mireles, a 20-year-old from San Antonio. Port Aransas Police have also confirmed that the 20-year-old's father, Richard Allen Mireles Jr., 47-years-old, died Wednesday at 5:03 p.m. at a Corpus Christi hospital.

Port Aransas Police Chief Scott Burroughs told KRIS 6 that around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, a father and son visiting from San Antonio went into the beach waters. The son was having trouble swimming so the father went out to bring him back to shore.

When emergency crews arrived, they were able to pull the father out of the water, but are now still actively searching for the 20-year-old son who is still missing. The father was pronounced unresponsive on-site and was rushed to Bay Area Hospital.

Around 12:14 p.m., crews from Nueces County ESD #2 were called to help aid in the search for the 20-year-old swimmer.
